Victorian Military Lectern – Wippell & Co
An antique oak lectern manufactured by J Wippell & Co (1789-present) This particular Arts and Crafts influenced model dates from the late Victorian period
At some stage it was then acquired by the military, and along with various serial numbers, ’Wippell & Co’ markings, it then had the unmistakable provenance of a WD (War Dept) stamp with Queens Crown imprinted on its base
It then made its way onto RAF Scampton, Lincionshire. An airbase synonymous for being the home the famous Dam Busters and The Red Arrows. It remained in their care until it was eventually privately purchased many years later
It certainly has been on a journey this one. If only objects could talk!
